Repair & Shipping

Everything you need to know before sending in your Hilton Sound System

If you have questions regarding servicing or repairing any Hilton Sound System, please contact me. Have the following information ready: model number, serial number, and as much information as possible regarding any problems with the system.

Fully Repairable Models

The following systems are fully repairable in my shop in Napa, California:

M-75AM-75BM-75CM-100AC-201AC-205AC-300AC-300AAC-300BAC-300CAC-500MA-150MA-500

Models I Cannot Work On

Due to their age and repair cost exceeding value, I am unable to work on the following models:

HP-80HP-95AC-200SS-200DJ-400DJ-500M-75

The HT-100 and HT-200 electronics are repairable — I do not have the tape drive units.

BEFORE SENDING YOUR SET IN — set it up at home and double check that the problem is still there. I have received several sets that work perfectly when they come in. I have to spend a lot of time trying to reproduce the problem, and that is a lot of labor time = your money.

Service Process

1

Receive & Review

When your system arrives I will read all information you provided and check it over.

2

Estimate

I will work up a repair estimate and contact you to go over what repairs are needed before starting any work.

3

Repair

Once you approve the estimate, I will complete the repairs to Hilton quality standards.

Sending Your System In for Repair

  • Your name and current address
  • A return shipping address
  • Contact information (daytime phone number, email, etc.)
  • A short description of any problems you have been experiencing
  • Any time frame in which you must have the system back

Insurance & Liability

Insure the shipment to reimburse yourself for any damage that may occur in transit. Claims are made through the shipping company. Even if insured, a shipment may be deemed "inadequately protected," resulting in a dispute. If a unit arrives showing damage, we will contact you immediately — but you, as the shipper, must file the claim.

Packaging Instructions

  1. 1

Before closing the turntable case, secure the tone arm in the clip with a twist tie and the speed control knob in the OFF position to the front panel knobs with rubber bands.

  2. 2

Place the system in its carrying carton, then into the packing carton. If you have the original shipping carton, use it — it is the best way to pack your system.

  3. 3

If you do not have the original carton, obtain a sturdy corrugated carton that is a minimum of 2" larger all around.

  4. 4

Use Styrofoam peanuts, plastic air bubble wrap, foam, or other similar packing material to pack the system in the center of the larger carton.

Shipping Instructions

  • Both UPS and FedEx have had problems finding my house. Ship SIGNATURE REQUIRED (not adult signature) so it does not sit on my front porch if I am away, and so I get prior notice of delivery. On UPS it's $3.87.
  • The choice of shipping method (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.) is up to you — all work well as long as the item is properly packaged.
  • Check what the shipping time is from your location to California to make sure it fits within your requirements.

International Shipping & Customs

  • Country of origin refers to the country of manufacture, not shipping origin. It is United States for all Hilton sets.
  • Include the statement "MANUFACTURED BY HILTON AUDIO PRODUCTS, CONCORD CA. USA — Returning for repair" somewhere on the shipping label.
  • It must be shipped to "Hilton Repair" — not Dick Bull.
  • To avoid extra brokerage charges, it must be shipped Free Domicile. Be sure to have proof of ownership in your country so you don't have to pay full value on return — you should only have to pay on the increase in value (i.e. repair costs).
